Mudita Counselling services are part of a group of industry specialists, generalist and clinical therapists who believe that mental health is an important consideration in the workplace. We've helped more than 100 organisations integrate mental health practices into their work culture.
Stephen works with adolescents and adults, individuals, couples and families. He is trained in CBT, ACT and ACT for Trauma, is studying EFT for Families and follows the Gottman approach when working with couples. Each practice has been researched thoroughly and is evidence based. His philosophy is that the client has the answers and collaborates with the therapist to access them. Mudita has a non-judgemental client centred, strengths based approach to its practice.

Stephen says:“My goal is to serve you and for you to need my service less and less as you realise your own strengths and abilities. I’m here for check-ins over time but, unless it’s an exceptional case, my work with you is finite. I want you not to need me. In a way I’m a bit selfish, I want to feel joy in your success.
Professor Chris Peterson, renowned psychologist was researching what mattered in life. He examined the question from a global perspective and determined; ‘Other people matter.” He lived by this mantra. Whatever else you take from this site visit today, please understand, you matter.”
Muditā means joy; especially sympathetic or vicarious joy, the pleasure that comes from delighting in other people’s well-being.[1]
I’ve worked in education and training ever since I served in the army. Through the 2000s I worked in general well-being with businesses, community groups, students and university graduates. Mental health and well-being have been vital to my own ability to move forward through a range of personal difficulties and challenges.
My experiences have shown that anyone can experience strife, trouble and misery. No person is exempt from moments of grief, anxiety and struggle. Everyone needs to feel heard. Even a high performing professional may have status, money and material gain but without good mental health strategies, they have struggles, anxieties and feelings of hopelessness like all of us.
Whether you need a qualified and experienced listening ear — or a more involved therapeutic cognitive-based plan — to move forward, your journey to healing starts with someone listening, in confidence, without judgement, without criticism – but before all that, it starts with you. Your journey starts at the moment you realise that you need more help than a coffee and a chat with a friend. It starts with that moment that turns into the insight, courage or need, to simply ask for help.
I have a Masters of Counselling and am available to work with young people, adults, carers and families. I have a special focus men’s issues, parent-child relationships, anxiety, depression and psychological distress. I’ve worked with various groups, and had the privilege of working with patients, caregivers and staff at The Royal Children’s Hospital, Melbourne.
As a former arts teacher, armed forces instructor, and ultra-marathon runner / coach, I bring a wide range of valuable experience and passion to my work. I believe in my client's ability to find their answers. I listen open-mindedly & offer different perspectives without judgement. My mudita is found when clients share their success and progress with me, and together we help them find their own mudita.
